Metrology for Ammonia in
Ambient Air

Project description

ENV55 MetNH3 is divided into 3 technical work packages (WP1, WP2, WP3) with the following objectives:

WP1: Realisation of ammonia reference gas mixture standards

  • Development of improved static reference gas mixture standards
  • Development of improved dynamic reference gas mixture standards

WP2: Development of standard optical methods

  • Development of an extractive traceable optical transfer standard
  • Development of sampling-free optical techniques
  • Metrological characterisation and inter-comparison of optical transfer standards and standard measurement techniques

WP3: Validation/Dissemination to field measurement techniques

  • Characterisation and validation of chamber facilities and an installation for proficiency tests for ambient concentrations of ammonia
  • Comparison of field applicable methods by traceable generators at installation for proficiency tests and field sites
  • Validation of online and offline samplers and wet chemical methods with traceable optical analysers
  • Evaluation of field applicable measurement methods to provide strategies for long term monitoring of ammonia reduction measures

In addition, all involved partners contribute to WP4 in order to create impact. Coordination and management of the project are subject to WP5.
